I’m in the process of creating a Twilight, Texas First Love Cookie Club cookbook, available for free in ebook to anyone who joins my private FB group.

Lori Wilde’s Wildings. https://www.facebook.com/groups/452076275271253/

As I was creating the cookbook, and including a recipe from the heroine of The Welcome Home Garden Club, Caitlyn Marsh–who is a florist–it occurred to me that when entertaining, certain flower arrangements could be paired with certain recipes for a cohesive presentation.

For instance, sugar cookies would pair quite well with a flowering vanilla orchid.

Or Peppermint Cookies with Sweet Williams.

Food and wine pairings are a thing. Why not food and flowers? When entertaining, have you have ever chosen flowers for your table based on the food you were serving? What foods do you think would pair well with what flowers?

It’s time for the Christmas books to hit the shelves and I’m so excited to share this lovely book with you. Not only is Christmas on Mistletoe Lane a wonderful book, I am so proud of Annie’s accomplishment.

You see, besides writing, I also teach writing courses on the side and Annie had taken several of my classes. To watch her grow and bloom as a writer and then to see her career take off, well, I get a little misty-eyed.

Annie did all the work. I just held the flashlight for a few minutes while she dug for gold. I hope as you make out your Christmas reading list, you’ll pick up Annie’s delightful book. You won’t be sorry.

Christmas is coming to the North Carolina mountains, and the air is fresh and crisp and filled with promise. After the devastating loss of her job in the big city, the small town of Sweetwater Springs feels like heaven to Kaitlyn Russo. She’s inherited her grandparents’ charming (if a little rundown) bed and breakfast, and it’s just the new lease on life she needs. Only “heaven” comes with a catch-and a handsome and completely infuriating one at that.

After what he hopes will be a quick trip, Mitch Hargrove wants nothing more than to put his hometown in the rearview mirror. But his plans get derailed when he learns he’s now half-owner of the Sweetwater B&B. The fact that he’s given only two months to make the inn a success is a huge problem, but it’s his pretty-and incredibly headstrong-partner who’s the real challenge. With the holiday fast approaching and a grand re-opening looming, will Mitch keep running from the ghosts of Christmas past . . . or will he realize the true gift he’s been given?

Hello All,

I have some exciting news to share.

I got the rights back from Harlequin on five “sweet” contemporary western romances that I wrote under my first pen name, Laura Anthony. I’ve revised and updated the stories and I’m publishing them myself. I hope to have the first one (Keegan) up around Thanksgiving.

These books are different from my Lori Wilde books in that there is no sex on the page. But there are plenty of sparks. I will be having a special free book offer, as soon as things are up and running, for the folks on my mailing list, so don’t forget to sign up. https://loriwilde.com/sign-up/

Without further ado, I give you the Texas Rascals:

How about you? Do read “sweet” romances? If not, would you give them a try? Or is on-the-page sex scenes more your style?

I’ve been doing some genealogy and have discovered I am a fifth generation Texan on three different sides. This is fairly uncommon in Texas because we weren’t a state until 1845, and the population of Texas is growing at an unprecedented rate with folks arriving from all over. Texas is a big place, roughly 800 miles (give or take a few) from both North to South and East to West.

I was hatched in the barren, arid sands of west Texas. It’s a harsh climate and the people who settled it tended to be hardy individualists with a wide stubborn streak. Generally, they were a no-nonsense bunch, intent on scratching out a living as best they could.

It took guts for my ancestors to move from the more bucolic lands in the east to come west and farm such hard-scrabble land. I grew up with midnight coyotes howling outside the door; cactus, grass burs, bull nettles, and mesquite thorns growing in wild profusion, and diamondback rattlesnakes slithering among the rocks. You don’t go barefoot in west Texas unless you have something of a death wish.

We faced frequent sandstorms and in the spring and summer months, the very real threat of tornadoes.

Where I’m from most everyone hunts and owns guns, believes barbecue beef brisket is mana from heaven, knows how to saddle and ride a horse, drives pickup trucks and can speak enough Spanish to get by. It’s a place where Wrangler jeans, cowboy boots and hats aren’t fashion accessories, but rather requirements for braving the unforgiving sun and savage terrain.

It was not the easiest environment for a shy, bookish girl to grow up in, but Texas made me who I am, and filled me with a never-quit, can-do-spirit that’s forged my career.

You might be thinking why would anyone stay here for five generations? Well, for all her faults and flaws, Texas also has poignant beauty. If you’ve never seen a field of bluebonnets spreading out like nature’s carpet, you’ve been missing out. (For some beautiful Texas photography, check out this site. http://www.wymanmeinzer.com/wymans-favorite-40/

Then there are…

The People

Folks from Texas are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Tex-Mex.

Texas is the only place you will get real Tex-Mex. Whoever tells you otherwise is lying.

The Sky

The skies are just darn gorgeous.

The Economy

Oil, banking, cattle, we make money.  Lower cost of living. Cheaper housing.

The Land

We got space folks. Plenty of elbow to stretch out and live life large.

Austin

Cause it’s weird. And the stellar music coming out of that place.

San Antonio

Cause of the Riverwalk. And the food.

The Cowboys

Nuff said.

So what about you? Where are you from? How has your environment influenced you? What are the pros and cons of living where you do?

Last month, my husband and I were lucky enough to become the permanent stewards of four Texas longhorns. These beautiful creatures were seized from a ranch in the Texas Hill Country because they were neglected and starving. I was led to understand that the original owner was grazing 350 head on 43 acres. Mostly, you need an acre per cow.

Here is their story. https://www.wfaa.com/article/life/pets/dead-longhorns-prompt-seizure-of-hundreds-of-animals-on-central-texas-property/287-516736501

When we heard about their plight, we knew we had to step up and offer a few of them a forever home. This video link shows them arriving at our ten acre place, Epiphany Orchards.

I can’t begin to tell you how much we’ve enjoyed them. They are getting tamer and tamer every day. The folks at the North Texas Humane Society are angels. They do what they do for the love of animals. If you feel moved by the story of the saving of the Longhorns, please consider donating to your local Humane Society.

This week, I’ve been reading…er, listening…to Carolyn Brown’s SOMETIMES SISTERS and it is delightful. I know Carolyn, and I can hear her personality coming through in the feisty character of Granny Annie. Carolyn expertly spins a tale of three estranged sisters finding their way back to each other the summer of their grandmother’s death. It’ so well done. I’m really enjoying this book. Kudos, Carolyn.

I particularly got a kick out the Easter egg where one of the characters is reading her favorite author and it turns out to be Katie Lane! Katie is a good friend of Carolyn’s and a fabulous author. All three of us–plus Laura Drake, Cynthia D’Alba, Christie Craig, Melissa Cutler, Maggie McGinnis, and Linda Warren are on Western Romance Cafe. If you’re on Facebook, join us for a fun, lively discussions about books and cowboys!

If you haven’t read SOMETIMES SISTERS go snag a copy. I promise you won’t regret it!

Here’s the cover for the third book in the Lockharts of Cupid, Texas series. (Out in the spring of 2019)

This is Rhett’s story and it’s the first time I’ve written the marriage of convenience trope. I found it quite challenging to write because it turns the whole “first comes love, then comes marriage” adage on its head. But I suspect that’s what makes MOC plots so much fun to read.

Here’s the blurb:

What would it take to tame a wild cowboy?

One minute, Rhett Lockhart is a love ‘em and leave ‘em bull rider with a slow, sexy smile, a swagger, and not a care in the world. The next, he learns his free-wheeling days are over: a baby has been abandoned in the hospital, and there’s no question: he’s the father. But from the first moment he gazes into his daughter’s eyes, he knows the moment has come to say ‘no’ to no-strings. It’s time to grow up.

Standing in his way is the baby’s foster mother, Tara Alzate, who doesn’t quite believe Rhett is ready to change his ways. Still, she’s not not immune to his considerable charms, so when he proposes a marriage of convenience and shared custody against her better judgement she says “I do.” Can Tara tame this wild cowboy and make her own, long-buried dreams come true?

 A Cupid, Texas novel

Do you like MOC plots? Would you ever enter into a marriage of convenience? If so, why? If not, what could happen that would change your mind about that?

I came across this passage today from the Velveteen Rabbit and it really touched me. Thought I would share.

“What is REAL? Does it hurt?” asked the Rabbit.

“Sometimes,” said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. “When you are Real you don’t mind being hurt.”

“Does it happen all at once, like being wound up,” he asked, “or bit by bit?”

“It doesn’t happen all at once,” said the Skin Horse. “You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

― Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit

Many times, as we grow older, we believe we lose our vibrancy and vitality and our worth. But as we age, if we can stay strong and resilient, if we can round off our sharp edges and accept life as it comes, we too will become REAL.

During my life, books and reading have helped me become more real. Keep reading, my friends. Books truly are the key to whole new worlds.
